Prayer for a Shepherd’s Love

Prayer for a Shepherd’s Love

Father, give us a shepherd's love

To see the feeble and help the weak

To leave the whole ninety and nine

The poor wanderers to seek

And like Jesus, the Great Shepherd

To lay down for them our lives, our all

Counting loss but gain for Christ

To obey the Father's call

A shepherd lives not in comfort

So let us forsake our ease and wealth

Let us suffer if need be

For their soul’s eternal health

Help us fear not the wrath of man

What can his anger or disdain do?

Neither he nor Satan can harm

Any soul that’s trusting You

For our moment’s light affliction

Worketh for us eternal glory

And we have this joy exceeding

To share Christ’s wondrous story

So grant us boldness for Thy cause

The door from earth to Life might be grim

But our Savior abolished death

And naught can heaven’s joy dim!

What verses does this bring to mind?

Quite a few for me.

This prayer shouldn’t just be what we expect from missionaries…it should be the desire of every child of God.

In His Keeping

  1. When the early morning breaking,
    Slumber from my eyelids shaking,
    Comes the blessed thought with waking,
    I am in His keeping.
    Day advances, labor bringing,
    Care, her mantle ’round me flinging,
    Yet midst all my soul keeps singing,
    I am in His care.
    • Refrain:
      I am in my Father’s keeping,
      I am in His tender care;
      Whether waking, whether sleeping,
      I am in His care.
  2. Sometimes dark clouds hang o’er me,
    Not one step I see before me,
    Still, my Savior, I adore Thee,
    I am in His keeping.
    I can trust His hand to guide me,
    ’Neath His wings He’ll safely hide me,
    And no harm can e’er betide me,
    I am in His care.
  3. Gentle eventide is nearing,
    Light from heaven disappearing,
    Still the blessed thought so cheering,
    I am in His keeping.
    Now night’s curtains gather ’round me,
    Yet its dangers have not found me,
    For His angel guards surround me,
    I am in His care.

God's Love is Like the Sunshine

God’s Love is Like the Sunshine

God’s love is like the spring sunshine

Fair, and warm, and bright,

And even when the storms pass through

He still sends forth light

And even when the clouds roll in

And dim what I can see

I know His love beyond the fog

Is shinning on me,

I rejoice to see the clouds go

And gaze on fresh skies

But the clouds teach me to cherish

The sunlight to prize.

Treasure

Treasures

One by one He took them from me,
All the things I valued most,
Until I was empty-handed;
Every glittering toy was lost.

And I walked earth’s highways, grieving.
In my rags and poverty.
Till I heard His voice inviting,
“Lift your empty hands to Me!”

So I held my hands toward heaven,
And He filled them with a store
Of His own transcendent riches,
Till they could contain no more.

And at last I comprehended
With my stupid mind and dull,
That God COULD not pour His riches
Into hands already full!

To Be God Be the Glory

To God Be The Glory

To God be the glory, great things He hath done,
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,
And opened the lifegate that all may go in.

Refrain:
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father thro’ Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory, great things He hath done.

O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
To ev’ry believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done,
And great our rejoicing thro’ Jesus the Son;
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.

To God be the glory, the vict’ry is won;
Our praise to the Saviour has only begun;
In heav’n’s radiant splendor we’ll join with the throng
And praise Him forever in jubilant song

Mother's Prayer

Mother’s Prayer

I was but a youth and thoughtless, as youths are apt to be;
Though I had a Christian mother who had taught me carefully.

There came a time when pleasure of the world came to allure,
And I no more sought guidance of her love so good and pure.

Her tender admonitions fell but lightly on my ear,
And for the gentle warnings, I felt an inward sneer.

But mother would not yield her boy to Satan’s sinful sway,
And though I spurned her counsel, she knew a better way.

She made my room an altar, a place of secret prayer,
And there she took her burden and left it in His care.

And morning, noon and evening by that humble bedside low,
She sought the aid of Him who understands a mother’s woe.

I went my way unheeding, careless of the life I led,
Until one day I noticed prints of elbows on my bed.

I saw that she had been there, praying for her wayward boy,
Who for love of worldly pleasure would her peace of mind destroy.

Long the conflict raged within me,  sin against my mother’s prayers,
Sin must yield – for Mother never , while she daily met Him there.

And her constant love and patience were like coals upon my head,
Together with the imprints of her elbows on my bed.

And so at last the fight was won, and I to Christ was led,
And mother’s prayers were answered
By her elbows on my bed.

Love for Love

Love for Love

I John 4:16.

Knowing that the God on high,
With a tender Father’s grace,
Waits to hear your faintest cry,
Waits to show a Father’s face,—
Stay and think! — oh, should not you
Love this gracious Father too?

Knowing Christ was crucified,
Knowing that He loves you now
Just as much as when He died
With the thorns upon His brow,—
Stay and think! — oh, should not you
Love this blessed Savior too?

Knowing that a Spirit strives
With your weary, wandering heart,
Who can change the restless lives,
Pure and perfect peace impart,—
Stay and think! — oh, should not you
Love this loving Spirit too?

Surrounded by My Father's Love

Surrounded by My Father’s Love

Surrounded by my Father’s love

Resting in His tender care,

Encompassed by His guarding angels

Communing with Him in prayer

My heart feareth no evil to come

For I am in the Lord’s hand

And what is there that can harm or touch me?

Save that He allows or planned.

He leadeth me by the still waters

And my soul suffereth no lack

And whatever I ask in His name

He will not from me hold back

For the love He has for His children

Is broader than they can know,

And the mercy He daily shows them

More than any giv’n below.

In Heavenly Love Abiding

In Heavenly Love abiding

“I will fear no evil, for thou art with me.” — Psalm 23:4.

In Heavenly Love abiding,
No change my heart shall fear,
And safe is such confiding,
For nothing changes here.
The storm may roar without me,
My heart may low be laid,
Bnt God is round about me,
And can I be dismayed?

Wherever He may guide me,
No want shall turn me back;
My Shepherd is beside me,
And nothing can I lack.
His wisdom ever waketh,
His sight is never dim, —
He knows the way He taketh,
And I will walk with Him.

Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;
Bright skies will soon be o’er me,
Where the dark clouds have been.
My hope I cannot measure,
My path to life is free,
My Savior has my treasure,
And He will walk with me.

Ture Love

True Love

Love is not pleasure,
Hugs, kisses, and cuddles galore;
Nor is it warm fuzzies,
Fair speech, flowers, or glamour.
True love is sacrifice,
Acts of service done out of love;
Joy and humility,
As shown on earth by Christ above.

Heather Rausch.
