In God's Economy
“In God’s economy people are of supreme worth. To invest our lives and means in anything else is an investment in trivia.”
This is a saying my Grandma has always liked, and to behold her life it's very true. Not only is she probably the most generous, selfless person I know, she has been blessed by the Lord with the gift of hospitality. Over the years she and Grandpa have helped countless people, young and old, whether through affording them a place to stay, feeding them, encouraging them, or just meeting some great or small need. She takes the saying to heart, and that reminds me of the verses in Matthew 6:19-21, "Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
Although heavenly treasures may not be as apparent as the new car sitting in your driveway, or the figures that make up your salary, or the respected title you've earned, the Bible makes it very plain earthly things quickly fade away. C.T Studd said, " Only one life,’twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last."
In what ways are you investing into other's lives and making a difference spiritually? Take a moment and seriously think. If you're impacting those around you, how? In a good way or in a harmful way?
People are often the most discouraging subjects when our aim is to make a better person out of them. Often, the human race has proven itself to be one of stupidity, thoughtlessness, and unreasonableness. Yet do not be deceived. It should not surprise us that people are the hardest to win, for Satan knows there is no soul as secure as the one in the Savior's grasp, and therefore he has no limits to the extent by which he will try to thwart God's work. It's easy to get disheartened when you don't think you're making a difference in the lives of those around you, but just remember, the most beautiful butterfly once emerged from an old, ugly cocoon and the most sparkling diamond was once rough and unpolished. People are lost sheep in need of the Shepherd. No sheep is too wretched to be counted unprofitable as long as it has life.
