Balm for My Aching Heart
When feeling alone and misunderstood
Holding back tears and cradling my aching heart
I come to You Father, as a child should
In my troubles You freely take a part.
And inside those kind eyes of Yours I see—
The love and hurt You are feeling for me,
Your arms are open wide, and reaching out
To calm my soul, when I would cry or shout.
You bend Your listening ear next to me
When all I can do is whisper and plea.
You welcome my burden, and take it on
You give me grace for the days hard and long.
You invite my friendship and my appeals
Truly, You are the only One Who heals
To those
who claim “time heals all wounds”;
Time, like
sunshine on the dyes of a flag,
Only fades
the colors that others can see
But The
heart holds hurts—bound up like a bag
Only God
can erase them completely
