Quite the Opposite

“Too heavenly minded to be of any earthly good.“

A statement and sentiment I have never understood

Quite the opposite is often and sadly of us true,

Our mortal and earthly minds do not share God’s holy view.

God’s Word tells us to “set our affections on things above”

And truly we would if we understood and shared His love.

Everything in this life will soon forever pass away

Only the things done for the Lord beyond this life will stay.

What may better describe those who with this statement let loose—

“Too earthly minded to be of any heavenly use.”
