Cast Down and Discouraged

Cast down and discouraged

Disheartened and alone,

Fair hopes dashed asunder

The griefs felt unknown,

Doubtful and faltering,

Heavy burdens to bear,

But oh, the Blest Comfort

Knowing Jesus is there!

 

Sometimes hard to follow

Seems His will unto us,

But He asks us to cling

To Him in childlike trust,

Higher His ways and thoughts

Than what we can attain,

When His way we can’t see

His grace will all sustain.

 

When low through the valley

Leads His clear guiding hand,

Though fruitless seem the toil

We spend foll’wing His plan,

We may rest in His Word

And rejoice in His name,

‘Cause for our good He acts

And He’s always the same!
